Shannon May

A library is an incredible resource and an asset to the
community it serves.
As a candidate for East Bonner County Library District
Board of Trustees, my objective is simply to try and serve the public by
continuing to provide high quality offerings and the best service possible.
I’ve been married 19 years--to the same woman.
Debbie and I, along with our daughter Galen, now 10, moved to
Sandpoint almost two years ago.
Yes, we, too, came here from California.
My library experience has been limited to that of a consumer/patron.
Fortunately, I’ve found the library here to be an incredible
improvement over what we experienced in Truckee near Tahoe, which is why I’d
like to be able to contribute to EBCLD’s continued success.
I work at Schweitzer Mountain, managing the facility &
grounds maintenance department.
Previously, I served on a small public utility district board of directors
(water, sewer & fire) for two years.
What I didn’t know about running a PUD is similar to what I don’t
know about running a library.
I’m willing to learn, however. I
do know that libraries are very important to a community and by looking at a
library you can tell a lot about that community.
In sum, I would like to serve on the district board for no
other reason than to serve the community, and maybe I’ll learn something
along the way.

Harvey Pine
My name is Harvey Pine. I am a candidate for the
East Bonner County Library Trustee election. I graduated with a
Masters Degree from the University of Michigan. I worked as an
Environmental Control Officer for the State of Wyoming. I was a part
time instructor for Environmental Issues at Western Wyoming College. I
am a US Army Veteran. My environmental career started with the
military assignment. I am retired from Los Angeles County Fire
Department's Hazardous Materials Unit.I have
been married to my wife, Anita, for over 40 years. Anita's family has
a home on Spirit Lake, so I have been coming to North Idaho regularly all of
my married life. Sandpoint was the place for us to retire.
I placed my name on the ballot because I see this as an
ideal avenue of service for me. I have been interested in libraries
most of my life and visited famous libraries like the Huntington as a
tourist attraction. My vision of a library is a culture center and
source of community pride. If you are familiar with the French
language, you know that the word "Library" refers to a book store. The
word to describe my vision of library is "BIBLIOTECK". The Bonner
County Library is my idea of a library. We have this great facility
because of the visions of our past trustees. I want to carry on their
tradition and add to their efforts.
I am active in literary groups. I am presently
the Past President of the Sandpoint Chapter of the Idaho Writers League.
I am also active with "Five Minutes of Fame" and the Friends of the Library.
My novel, "Landa" is in the library. My play, "Frankie's Thursday
Night" is available on audio cassette. My writing credits include many
short stories and articles. Many have seen my essays in the local
journals.
I live a conservative lifestyle and consider myself a
conservative; however most people know that I am politically very anti-right
wing.
I encourage everyone to show support for our Library by
participating in the election May 22, as you vote for the candidate of your
choice.
